RESEARCH INTERESTS

His research interests focus on Latin American regionalism and Argentine foreign policy. During his doctoral and postdoctoral studies, he deepened this research topic identifying the role of Argentina in the articulation of a regional defense system from the 1990s to the beginning of the 21st century. Further research focused on the reconfiguration of South American regionalism and the creation of the South American Defense Council of UNASUR. Currently, Frenkel is researching the role played by Argentina in the transformation of the defense architecture in South America, combining constructivism and Foreign Policy Analysis as a theoretical framework. Among its objectives are to deepen the studies on Regional Security Complexes and the Argentine foreign policy, focusing on the patterns of friendship and enmity and its impact in the relations with the South American countries.

He coordinates the Argentine chapter of the South American Observatory of Defense and Armed Forces of GEDES, Universidade Estadual Paulista.
