Innovative teaching methods in International Relations
How to teach IR concepts to underdraduate students in Global South contexts? The project serves as a platform to experiment with innovative pedagogical approaches and interdisciplinary teaching methods in IR. Faculty members that participated in the project tested a teaching method from a range of options that were previously identified in the literature review process. Methods that incorporate visual technologies and multi-media in teaching environments. Areas covered included: a) Art, cinema, and IR; (b) Simulations, video games and IR; and c) Media and IR. Researchers kept a record of the various stages of the project development which included the processes of designing, implementation and evaluation of results of the teaching methods. The following criteria were employed to evaluate results: learning performance of core IR concepts; student engagement throughout the course and activities; stimulation of critical thinking. Furthermore, the assessment of results also included surveys to gather imputs about student views about the usefulness of the methods used in the courses.
